My first leg of travel found me conveniently upgraded to first class on Delta. In retrospect, it was a cruel thing for them to do to me. Starting off with 5 hours in a comfortable seat, with ample leg room, sets up all the wrong expectations for the next 2 flights. But, I enjoyed it while I had it! After about 5 hours, and an inability to sleep at all, I arrived in San Francisco around 6:30am. The plan, get my Capture Camera Clip. I had expected to have to claim my checked baggage and store it in a locker while I was out, but was pleasantly surprised to find out my bag would automatically be transferred ( this wasn't the case in my 2007 trip). This means I got a head start on my way to San Francisco's Dogpatch to meet up with Peter. I headed out of the terminal and stood outside, marveling at the cool weather and stood there dumbly for a second trying to get my bearings. Then, as my old PM Jeralyn used to say "to the google!" San Fransisco public transit is pretty good and Google navigation worked flawlessly. After a quick ride on the bart and a transfer on to a bus I managed to get to the workshop faster than Google's estimated 1hr and 9 min. I texted Peter before hopping on the bus and still managed to beat him there. The neighborhoods I rode through looked pretty sketchy, enough that I didn't want to break out my camera to take pictures of it (sorry). The Dogpatch is an industrial type area with some coffee shops, restaurants, and creative type businesses (Revision3 is housed just a block away from the workshop).Peter arrived about 15 minutes after I did and let me. We were early and none of the employees were in yet. The place is pretty much a warehouse/workshop environment that looked like a shipping company imploded. The Kickstarter funding ended on Saturday so he was in the process of starting the shipping process to all the first backers. There were boxes and products everywhere. The tour was pretty much a stand one place and turn around deal but it was still a nice gesture. We chatted or a bit and he gave me a couple of pointers on use of the clip. He asked how long I was in the area and if I had ever been to San Fran before, and then recommended I take a walk down the waterfront and head toward the Ferry building. From there I could hop on the bart and head straight back to the airport. So I attached my Capture Camera Clip and headed off down the waterfront. It was a good 2 hour stroll and there wasn't a whole lot to see along the way but I took a couple of pics.
So at this point all I had was cup of coffee and airline food. I never did get around to having a meal in San Francisco, thus no food pictures beyond the farmers market. From here I hopped on the bart and made it back to the airport right on time. I made my way to the gate and after a nice little chat with the attendant at the gate managed to get upgraded to Economy Plus. It's amazing what an innocent question and polite chit chat can get you. I'll continue this in the next post. Ilonka is expecting us back soon for lunch. I believe we're having duck (sult kacsa), red cabbage (voros kaposzta), and potato (torot krumpli). |

Yeah, in the first bridge shot I was hoping to use the restaurant to show some scale somehow. The second shot was a spur of the moment shot as I was walking by and I didn't think about framing. I do have a pic or 2 of just bridge but it's kinda boring and hazy.
Just a thought about the bridge pics... Maybe focusing on the bridge woulde made for a nicer effect? Sorry don't mind me.. Im in full Disneyland photography mode right now.. Hope to read more posts soon!!!
